What happens when a rabbit is in heat?
When the adult male rabbit is in estrus, it will make a low and regular sound different from “Cuckoo” to attract the attention of the female rabbit, and will bite the cage and make circles. Turn and wait for a series of abnormal behaviors. At the same time, male rabbits will spray urine when they are in heat. In short, they will defecate everywhere. They do this mainly to mark the territory. And the male rabbit will also have the possibility of running away from home, because it wants to go out to find the female rabbit for mating.
The performance of female rabbits during estrus is not the same as that of male rabbits. The most obvious feature is its vaginal mucosa. It is mostly pink when in estrus, bright red in the exuberant period, and purple in the later period. And when female rabbits are in heat, their emotions will become particularly irritable, such as calling in the middle of the night, loss of appetite, and even hunger strikes.
In addition, rabbits in heat also like to crawl on other rabbits. For example, when a female rabbit is placed in a cage with a male rabbit, the female rabbit will take the initiative to approach the male rabbit, and then voluntarily accepts the straddle.
What to do when a rabbit is in heat?
There are two solutions for rabbits in heat, one is to help it find a partner of the opposite sex, and the other is to take it for sterilization.
At the same time, the owner can also use other things to distract the rabbit’s attention and consume the rabbit’s energy, so that the symptoms of the rabbit’s estrus can be relieved. For example, let the rabbit out of the cage play games or toys with it for a while to consume the rabbit’s excessive energy.
In addition, if the rabbit urinates anywhere during the estrus period, the owner may have to endure it for a while and make some adjustments to the rabbit’s diet, so as to provide the rabbit with more digestible, palatable fruit and vegetable snacks , but be careful not to overdose.
