I. Causes of trauma in rabbits
The trauma of rabbits is caused by various external machinery caused by force. For example, rabbits are scratched by iron nails or bamboo thorns in cages; the cages are not correctly arranged, causing rabbits to fall; rabbits fight and bite each other. Rabbits are easily infected by pathogenic microorganisms when they are traumatized.
Second, Rabbit Trauma Infection Symptoms
Any part of the rabbit’s body may be injured. If the rabbit is not dealt with in time after trauma, it is easy to cause inflammation. When the external wounds of rabbits have symptoms such as ulcers, bleeding, redness, swelling, and pain, accompanied by pathogenic microorganism infection, the trauma of rabbits may be secondary to suppuration, tissue necrosis, or rabbit septicemia.
Three, prevention and control measures of rabbit trauma infection
Prevention measures: Avoid sharp foreign objects such as iron wires, iron nails, and bamboo thorns in the rabbit house and rabbit cage; control the cage density reasonably; keep male rabbits and female rabbits in groups; prevent rabbits from climbing up and falling.
Treatment methods:
1. If the rabbit’s traumatic bleeding is severe, the broken end of the rabbit’s blood vessel should be sutured and ligated with silk thread as soon as possible; for diffuse bleeding symptoms, the wound can be sprinkled to stop the bleeding, Powder or compression bandages to stop the bleeding.
2. Some minor superficial wounds in rabbits can be disinfected with 2~3% iodine tincture or 70% alcohol after cleaning the wounds.
3. When the rabbit has a large wound, it should be stopped. First, the hair around the wound should be cut off, the wound should be washed with 0.1% potassium permanganate, and the wound’s necrosis should be removed simultaneously. For tissue or foreign body, sprinkle the anti-inflammatory powder on the wound and wrap it with gauze.
4. If the rabbit’s wound has been infected and purulent, in addition to using the above method, it is also necessary to rinse the wound with 3% hydrogen peroxide to drain the pus from the wound, but be careful not to squeeze it hard and remove it. Afterward, apply Widowmaker’s ointment. When the wound is large, a drainage hole should be left, and the wound should be treated once a day until the rabbit’s wound is healed.
5. For the trauma of rabbits with limb fractures, iodine antibiotics should be used for treatment after the fractured bones of the rabbits are connected and fixed.
6. For sick rabbits with trauma accompanied by abnormal body temperature, poor mental state, loss of appetite, and other symptoms, using sulfonamides and antibiotics can be considered for treatment. When necessary, the sick rabbits need to be injected with nutrients such as glucose and vitamin C to promote their recovery of the sick rabbits.
The above is our introduction to the methods of coping with rabbit trauma; I hope it can help.
