How to treat myocarditis in dogs

1. Types and symptoms of myocarditis in dogs

1. Acute myocarditis: acute myocarditis in dogs Myocarditis is mainly caused by canine distemper, parvovirus disease, toxic diseases, rheumatism, anemia and other diseases. In addition, if dogs take certain antibiotics, sulfonamides and other drugs, they may have allergic reactions and cause myocarditis.

The symptoms of acute myocarditis are mainly abnormal excitability of the myocardium, in addition to arrhythmia. Affected dogs usually experience a rapid heartbeat after a little exercise. Even if it has stopped exercising for a while, it will continue to have a fast heartbeat. The pulse of the affected dog is very fast and full, the palpitations are hyperactive, and the heart murmur is obvious. When the heart muscle of the dog suffers from dystrophy and degeneration, it will lead to heart failure and arrhythmia. If it is severe myocarditis, there will be systemic failure, tremor, even coma, and death.

2. Chronic myocarditis: Chronic myocarditis in dogs is usually transformed from acute myocarditis or endocarditis, which is characterized by periodic myocardial failure. After a little exercise, the affected dog may experience breathing difficulties, rapid pulse, and irregular heartbeat. In addition, it may cause mucosal cyanosis, ascites or pleural effusion, body swelling, and eventually death from heart failure.

Second, the treatment of dog myocarditis

Treatment principles: Increase myocardial nutrition for dogs, improve their myocardial function, treat and prevent primary diseases.

1. Strengthen the care of the sick dog, give the sick dog a quieter environment for recuperation, and avoid exercise. At the same time, the liquid injection is carried out to help the sick dog to invigorate the heart and spleen, invigorate qi and promote yang, through intramuscular injection of astragalus injection 2~4ml/time, 1~2 times a day, continuous injection for 3~4 days.

2. Use drugs that can promote myocardial metabolism for sick dogs: such as mixing 10% glucose 100~200ml, adenosine triphosphate 20mg, coenzyme A 50 units, cytochrome C 15mg, vitamin C 0.5 g and other substances, for slow intravenous drip, once a day, and intramuscular injection of vitamin B 100mg, inosine 25 ~ 50mg / time, twice a day.

3. Symptomatic treatment: If the dog has bacterial myocarditis, according to the weight of the dog, intramuscular injection of ampicillin 50 mg/kg and gentamicin 10,000 units/kg is required. If it is viral myocarditis, the primary disease should be treated, such as intramuscular injection of polymyocytes. For toxic diseases, specific antidotes are used. For dogs with oliguria and obvious edema, intramuscular injection of furosemide injection is required. Cardiotonic drugs should not be used in dogs in the early stages of illness.

The above is the treatment method for dog myocarditis that we have summarized, but it is not recommended that the owner treat the sick dog by himself. For the sake of the health and safety of the dog, if the dog has the above symptoms, please send it to the pet hospital for treatment in time!
