how to raise turtles

Turtle feeding methods

1. Choose healthy

The first point of feeding turtles is to select healthy and vigorous turtles for breeding. Healthy turtles have generally hard carapaces, complete carapaces, bright eyes, and clean nostrils. , The head and limbs are flexible, and they will compete for food and so on. Also, put a turtle in the water and a healthy turtle will sink. In general, it is necessary to pay attention to the feeding of healthy and vigorous turtles, which is the key to improving the feeding rate.

2. Reasonable selection and installation of breeding boxes

Young turtles can be raised in flat-bottomed containers, such as plastic pots, plastic tanks, glass tanks, aquariums, etc. These containers are suitable for raising For young turtles, pay attention to controlling the depth of the water. The depth of the water should be just below the turtle’s carapace, so that the turtle’s feet can reach the ground when it comes to the surface to breathe. In addition, put bricks or stone chips in the container as a drying platform, so that the turtle can bask on its back. Alternatively, you can purchase a drying platform for hatchlings and put them in. It is not recommended to use floating islands, because it is difficult for hatchlings to climb up, and it will only consume a lot of the tortoise’s strength. There are sunbeds that are very suitable for small turtles. Also, take care to avoid the decorations inside the container becoming a dangerous obstacle that could trap the hatchlings and cause them to drown.

In addition, tortoises have a strong climbing ability, so it is necessary to cover the top of the breeding container with a wire mesh to prevent the hatchlings from climbing out of the breeding box. Change the water regularly during the feeding process to strictly prevent the water quality from stinking.

3. Control the feeding temperature.

The most suitable water temperature for hatchlings to survive is 23~28℃. When the temperature is low, attention should be paid to increase the water temperature appropriately. For example, you can use a heating rod to adjust the water temperature, and then cover the top of the breeding box with a layer of cloth to reduce the entry of cold air, but pay attention to the electric heating pipe should be placed below the water surface, and pay attention to avoid the electric heater and power cord. possible. In addition, hatchlings should have access to direct sunlight, and when the weather is good, the breeding box can be placed on a balcony or window sill. If there is no way to expose the turtles to sunlight, it is necessary to pay attention to 1~2 UV exposures to the hatchlings per week for about 3~5 minutes each time. Be careful to avoid the UV light being too close to the hatchlings to prevent damage to the tortoise due to excessive light. But it’s best to expose the hatchlings to sunlight.

4. Choose reasonable feeds for feeding

You should mainly feed full-price compound feeds for raising hatchlings. The protein content in the feeds is 47%, and the nutrition is comprehensive. In addition to feeding full-price compound feed, you can usually supplement some trace elements and vitamins to turtles regularly. You can properly feed the turtle some fruits, vegetables and mixed feed to ensure the turtle’s nutritional balance and enhance its physical resistance. In addition, the daily feeding of turtles should be done on a regular, fixed-point, and qualitative basis.
