Breeding conditions and management of budgies

1. Conditions conducive to the breeding of budgerigars

1. Large enough Activity space

Although the parrot is very small, it is not allowed to use a cage that is too small to raise the parrot. Be sure to leave enough space for the parrot. In addition, the bird cage should not be less than 0.5 cubic meters, so as not to affect the parrot breeding offspring.

2. Combining the structure of the bright room and the dark room

Note that the bird cage is divided into two rooms, the bright room and the dark room. The bright room is mainly used for parrot activities and feeding, and the dark room is used for letting Budgies lay eggs, hatch and brood. In addition, in the dark room, it is necessary to set up a shallow dish-like laying seat, so that the eggs can be kept stable after the parrot lays eggs, and it is not easy to roll to the ground.

3. Lay suitable litter in the bird cage

Generally, a dung tray should be placed at the bottom of the bird cage to facilitate the collection and cleaning of bird excrement. In addition, a layer of fine sand should be placed on the plate so that the birds can pick it up and promote digestion.

4. Keep the ratio of males and females balanced

If you keep a large number of parrots and plan to breed them, you need to pay attention to adjusting the size of the bird cage according to the number of birds. For parrots raised in groups, the larger the cage, the better, and there should be enough perches and nest boxes in the cage. In addition, the ratio of females and males needs to be balanced, or there can be more females.

Second, the breeding process of budgerigars

1. Parrot breeding Cycle

Budgies can breed almost all year round, with about 4 to 5 litters per year. But breeding parrots should be stopped during the summer. 2. Pairing of male and female birds

After the male and female birds have a good pairing, they will soon select a nest and mate. The male will hoist the food back to the nest box for the mother to feed, and always stand by the side of the nest box, which means that the mother is fertilizing and preparing to lay eggs.

3. Egg-laying interval

Parrots generally lay one egg per day or every day. The owner should pay attention to remember the time when the bird lays the first egg , because eggs generally hatch one by one according to the order in which they were laid. Parrots can usually lay 4 to 7 eggs per nest. Before parrots lay eggs, owners should pay attention to adding some lime to their feed to supplement calcium for mother birds to prevent parrots from laying soft-shell eggs.

4. Incubation period

The incubation period of budgerigars is 18 to 20 days. In the early stage of incubation, the female bird will be very alert. During this period, the owner should not easily move the nest box and peep the eggs in the nest, and pay attention to keeping the parrot breeding environment quiet.

5. Co-incubation of male and female

The female bird undertakes the hatching task. During the incubation period of the female bird, the female bird will not come out of the nest to feed, and the male bird will feed it. Usually the female starts laying and hatching when she has laid her second or third egg. About 18 days after the first egg is laid, the owner can take out the nest box to check whether there are hatchlings, and pick out the infertile and broken eggs in time. After that, check every 3 days to see if new chicks have hatched.
