How to solve turtle not eating

Why the turtle doesn’t eat?

1. The temperature of the feeding water is too low

The turtle is very sensitive to changes in temperature. If the temperature difference in the breeding environment is too large or the temperature is too low, it will easily affect the turtle’s appetite, so it will not eat. When the temperature is lower than 15 ℃, the tortoise stops eating completely and begins to hibernate. Therefore, when it is found that the tortoise does not eat, the pet owner can consider whether it is caused by low temperature and pay attention to temperature changes. If the tortoise is not ready for hibernation, it is necessary to adjust the water temperature to prevent it from hibernating. The way to prevent turtles from hibernating is very simple. Just use a heating rod to adjust the breeding water to a suitable temperature, and then put the turtles into the water. Generally, as long as the water temperature does not reach the conditions for the tortoise to hibernate, the tortoise will not enter the hibernation state.

2. The water level is not over the back

Most water turtles like water very much and have certain requirements for the water level. For example, grass carp, if the rearing water does not cover its back, it will not eat. So water not being able to back is also one of the reasons why turtles don’t eat, especially for young turtles. Because the bite force of young turtles is relatively weak, their jaws are not fully developed, and it is difficult to eat independently, and they need to rely on water pressure to eat. And if it is an adult turtle, there is no need for external force to eat. Therefore, when breeding turtles, pets should pay attention to making the water level above the turtle’s back.

3. Turtles are tired of eating feed

Turtles, like humans, will eat the same food for a long time. greasy. In order to save time and convenience, some pet owners buy a large package of turtle food at one time and save it, and usually only feed the turtle food to the turtle. Doing so, however, can easily cause the tortoise to tire of eating. Moreover, this feeding method is also not conducive to the health of the turtle, because the nutrients added to the turtle are often not enough. The tortoise’s diet should be as diverse as possible, which will not only help to supplement it comprehensively, but also effectively enhance the tortoise’s appetite. If the turtle does not eat for this reason, the pet owner can feed it some fresh fish and shrimp, or lean pork and other fruits and vegetables to enrich its diet, so as to increase its appetite and encourage it to eat.

4. The tortoise is sick

If the tortoise does not eat because of the above conditions, the tortoise is likely to be sick. For example, the turtle has rot disease, skin rot, gastrointestinal disease or inflammation, which will cause the turtle’s appetite to decrease. If this happens, don’t feed the tortoise again. The tortoise’s feeding this time will only increase the burden on its intestines, because the food it eats cannot be excreted, resulting in excessive food accumulation in its intestines. Fermentation stinks, which can easily lead to other diseases of the tortoise.

If the turtle is inflamed, you can add an appropriate amount of oxytetracycline to the breeding water and let the turtle soak in the water for half an hour to achieve the purpose of anti-inflammatory. If the tortoise has gastroenteritis symptoms, it needs to be treated with matinglin to help it cure the gastroenteritis disease.

In general, there are many factors that lead to turtles not eating. The exact cause of the eating is addressed with a targeted treatment plan.
