Dog seborrheic dermatitis is a disease of skin lipid metabolism disorder, which is common in several dog breeds such as German shepherd dog and Shar Pei. This disease is different from people’s seborrheic eczema, and is a class of seborrheic diseases including scales to severe dermatitis.
Symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis in dogs
Canine dermatitis occurs scattered on the back, head and extremities. According to different symptoms, it can be divided into three types: dry, oily and dermatitis.
dry type. The skin is dry, with off-white or silver fish scales scattered in the coat. The depilation is lighter and is in a state of hair thinning.
Oily type. The skin and coat at the base of the tail with well-developed sebaceous glands contain a lot of oil or yellowish-brown high-quality lumps, and there is a lot of earwax in the external auditory canal, and some have otitis externa. A special foul smell can be smelled.
Dermatitis type. Affected dogs showed itching, erythema, scales, and severe hair loss, with obvious scab formation. The affected parts were more common in the back, auricle, frontal tail, lower chest, elbows, hocks, etc. The dog will enlarge the affected area and aggravate the condition due to itching and biting.
Treatment method of dog seborrheic dermatitis
Treatment plan Anti-inflammatory, symptomatic treatment and supplement of corresponding deficient substances
Treatment method one: Prednisolone, 1~2 mg/kg, orally, twice a day until the symptoms are alleviated and gradually reduced
Treatment method 2: Increase nutrition, feed more high-protein, high-fat substances, inject vitamin A, Vitamin D
