Symptoms of a cold in cats
1, runny nose, and change in breathing sound big. After a cat has a cold, the breathing changes are more obvious. Because cats are relatively lazy animals and sleep for a long time, you can observe the breathing of cats during sleep. If there is difficulty in breathing and loud noises, it may be a cold.
2. Tears. Cats with a cold can cause nasal congestion because the nasolacrimal ducts are connected. If the nose is blocked, fluid can flow out of the tear ducts. This is normal and very similar to a human cold.
3. Sneeze. Sneezing is usually an itchy feeling on the nose or outside of the body and is released by an involuntary eruption. Sneezing is also a common symptom of the common cold.
4. Coughing or shaking. The common cold is accompanied by a cough and, in severe cases, can cause chills, so don’t worry too much.
These symptoms are almost the same as ours, so cats are prone to colds and owners need to watch them carefully.
Cat ColdsCauses
There are two main reasons, both viruses. One is the common feline rhinotracheitis virus and the other is the feline rash virus. The virus is spread from one infected cat to another through droplets from an infected cat’s sneeze. Unfortunately, some cats are carriers of the virus but show no symptoms.
Therefore, as soon as the cat has cold symptoms, it should be isolated immediately. The incubation period is 20 to 10 days, but even with successful treatment, most cats become carriers of the virus. It is best not to allow these cats to interact with other cats. Getting vaccinated in time can give them some security. Consult your veterinarian for details.
