Causes of cat eczema: The etiology of cat eczema can be divided into two types: external and internal.
External factors are mainly skin irritation caused by long-term unclean fur; friction, scratching, licking and bites by parasites; excessive humidity; long-term irritation of the skin by pus, urine and feces. The main internal cause is the cat’s allergic constitution, and the spoilage products, endocrine disorders, and microbial toxins when suffering from gastrointestinal diseases can lead to skin inflammation. In addition, diseases such as nutritional metabolism disorder and vitamin deficiency can also reduce skin resistance and cause eczema.
Common areas of cat eczema
Cat’s neck, back, abdomen , tail root, scrotum and around the toes, between the toes, etc. are susceptible to infection. The main symptom is inflammation of the skin surface. Small papules the size of rice grains can be seen in the early stage of the disease and spread rapidly to the surrounding area. Cats can also show signs of irritability, licking, scratching, gnawing, or rubbing infected areas to aggravate already infected areas and cause more damage. The surface of the eczema has a yellow-red liquid oozing out, which will gradually crust over. In severe cases, it causes extensive skin necrosis and full-thickness peeling.
Cat Eczema Treatment:
1. Removing the cause: including treating the primary disease, deworming the cat in vitro, removing foreign bodies around the wound, improving environmental hygiene, getting more sun exposure, and adjusting the proportion of nutrients in cat food.
2. Reduce or stop self-injury: sedative, antipruritic, etc. can be given to sick cats.
3. Enhance the cat’s physique: We can usually give the cat some nutrient-rich, vitamin- and mineral-rich food to help the cat improve its physique, play with the cat more, and help it exercise .
