Common Deformities in Rabbits

Which situation means that the rabbit is deformed

1. The incisor of the rabbit is too long

Excessive incisor teeth in rabbits can be called mandibular process deformity. The lower incisors of some rabbits grow obliquely upward, like inverted ivory. The upper incisors of some rabbits grow into the mouth, and the upper incisors become long and curved, like sheep’s horns. Both of these conditions can affect the rabbit’s food intake and can easily puncture the rabbit’s palate and gums.

2. Rabbit splayed legs

The two front legs of the rabbit stretch out diagonally forward in a splayed shape, making it difficult to walk. Rabbit splayed legs may be born or acquired. The congenital splayed legs of rabbits are inherited, and the acquired splayed legs are mainly caused by malnutrition (inappropriate ratio of calcium and phosphorus nutrients), improper management (standing on a too smooth bottom net for a long time) and other factors. But no matter whether the condition of rabbits is congenital or acquired, it cannot be used as a seed.

3. Defects of rabbit body parts

Some body parts of some rabbits are skewed, which is not convenient for breeding , and the appearance of the rabbit is not beautiful, not suitable for use as a species.

4. Rabbit ears drooping

The ears of some rabbit breeds are naturally droopy, which is an inherent characteristic of some rabbit breeds , such as French lop rabbits, Dutch lop rabbits, etc. However, most rabbit breeds have upright ears. Acquired ear drops can be used for treatment, but this has become a defect of rabbits, and the rabbits can no longer be used as breeding rabbits.

In addition, some male rabbits have symptoms such as cryptorchidism, single testis, and genital deformities, and some female rabbits have too few nipples. These rabbits cannot be used as breeding rabbits.

Here’s our full introduction to which rabbits can’t be used as breeders. Finally, I would like to remind all owners not to only focus on the selection of male rabbits and ignore the quality of female rabbits. Because if the quality of female rabbits is not good, it is difficult for male rabbits to produce better quality offspring. I hope this sharing can help rabbit farmers!
