How to prevent trichomoniasis in parrots

Control methods of parrot trichomoniasis

Implementing purification measures in bird cages and aviaries to establish Trichomonas-negative populations is a key measure to prevent parrots from contracting trichomoniasis. Feed separately. If conditions permit, adult parrots should be kept alone; for young birds, they should be kept in small groups, and attention should be paid to keeping the bird’s breeding environment, feed, trough, water tank and drinking water clean and hygienic. Usually, breeders need to check the flock regularly to check whether the birds carry parasites. It is best to check the flock several times every day, take the oral mucus of the birds for microscopic examination, and then regularly disinfect the birds and carry out preventive measures. Dosing. This preventive measure is mainly aimed at large bird farmers, and those who keep a small number of parrots can make appropriate reference.

The drugs commonly used to prevent trichomoniasis in parrots are:

1. Regularly add 0.3% allicin to the feed of parrots. Disease prevention is better.

2. Take 500 mg of metronidazole and add 1 L of water. According to this drug ratio, feed the sick birds in an appropriate amount for three consecutive days, then stop feeding for two days, and then continue to feed for three consecutive days.

3. Use the two-in-one drug of Trichomonas cabbies for prevention. According to the ratio of every 5g to 1L of water, give the sick bird an appropriate amount for 1~2 days.

If a bird is found to be sick or a bird is carrying parasites, the sick bird should be kept in isolation immediately, and supplemented with drug treatment, which can be treated in the following ways:

1 , Mix a small amount of 0.05% crystal violet solution or copper sulfate solution in the drinking water of sick birds, and then take it continuously for 1 week, which can usually play a better preventive and therapeutic effect.

2. According to the ratio of metronidazole 500mg to 1L of water, feed the sick birds an appropriate amount every day for a week.

3. Take the two-in-one medicine of Trichomonas cabbies and treat the sick birds continuously for 3 to 5 days according to the ratio of 5g medicine and 1L water. Note that while using the above anti-Trichomonas drug treatment for sick birds, some vitamins and antibiotics should also be added to the feed of all birds for adjuvant treatment to improve the resistance of the birds and prevent secondary infections.

The above are the treatments used for most seriously ill parrots. For a few seriously ill parrots, we recommend that breeders use a sterile cotton swab to dip in saline to soften the pseudomembrane in the mouth of the sick bird, then gently peel off the pseudomembrane in the mouth, and then apply 5 % iodine glycerin, clean once a day. Choose one of the above drug treatments.
