1. Timing of hatchlings entering the pool
The newly hatched turtles generally Climb to a hidden place to hide. At this time, their skin is very sensitive and easily scratched, so the baby turtle should be raised in a smooth shallow water container. After 2-3 days, the yolk sac of the baby turtle is completely absorbed, and the belly is completely absorbed. A scutellum healed, and then transferred to the hatchling pond for rearing.
The timing of juvenile turtles entering the pool should be adjusted according to the weather. If it is relatively hot from July to August, the outdoor high temperature environment is generally not suitable for the growth of juvenile turtles. In October, the temperature difference between day and night is relatively large. So not suitable. Therefore, if the hatchlings are hatched during these two time periods, it is recommended to keep them indoors for the time being, and then enter the pool when the weather is warmer.
If it’s a warmer season, you can put it into the pool after being kept indoors for a few days. Be sure to soak it in potassium permanganate solution or high-concentration salt water for 10 minutes before entering the pool. Afterwards, rinse with plenty of water.
2. What do hatchlings eat?
Newly-born turtles generally don’t eat, and will not start eating until 2-3 days after the absorption of the vitellogenin is complete. At this time, the turtle’s stomach is relatively weak, so it is necessary to feed high-quality, Fresh, palatable and easy-to-digest soft feed. For example, steamed and mashed egg yolks, wheat noodles, water fleas, silk earthworms, mashed mussels, mosquito larvae, scours, etc.
When the juvenile turtle grows to 20-30 days old, it can be fed with a small amount of feed with some small particles. When the winter comes, the intake of animal protein and fat can be gradually increased, which is good for the turtle. Get ready for hibernation.
Pay attention to regular and quantitative feeding of small turtles. The feed should be placed on the food table. If it is observed that the turtle has not finished eating within 2 hours, the remaining food should be cleaned up, and the next time it should be appropriate. Reduce feeding amount.
Three, water temperature and water quality management
1. Water temperature management: it can be The normal growth temperature of juvenile tortoises is 15-35 ℃, and the suitable temperature is 25-30 ℃. Under suitable temperature, juvenile tortoises have a strong appetite. If the ambient temperature is lower than 12 ℃, juvenile tortoises will stop eating.
2. Water quality management: Although juvenile turtles can barely survive under poor water quality, their growth rate will be significantly slowed down or even basically stagnant. Therefore, it is recommended to change the water every 5-7 days. Before changing the water, clean up the food residues and other wastes at the bottom of the pool. In addition, the problem of new water should not be too different from the old water, and try to keep it within 5 °C to avoid irritation to the little turtles. Finally, try to control the amount of water exchange each time to 1/3 of the total amount of water, because large-scale changes in water quality will also cause small turtles to not adapt.
