Dog constipation is a condition in which dry stools remain in the intestines and make it difficult to pass them out. Often due to improper feeding, the food is too rough, dry and single, the drinking water is insufficient, and the feed is difficult to digest. Gastrointestinal dysfunction, lack of exercise, autonomic disorders, etc. From the perspective of traditional Chinese veterinarians, constipation is caused by heat in the stomach and intestines, insufficiency of cold, and deficiency of qi and blood.

Traditional Chinese medicine therapy is based on the principle of diarrhea and bowel movement, and the following prescriptions can be used:

①Da Cheng Addition and subtraction of Qi soup: 15g of rhubarb, 3g of Magnolia officinalis, 3g of Jishi, 40g of Glauber’s salt, 5g of Qingmuxiang, 3g of Muxiang. The powdered mixed feed is taken orally, or decocted in water and taken by gastric tube, orally administered or retained for enema.

②Oil Angelica 15g, Cistanche 10g, Senna, Fried Citrus, Vinegar 5g each, Magnolia 4g, Muxiang, Qumai, Tongcao 3g each. Decoct in water to extract juice, add 50g of edible oil to warm it, and take it once. Suitable for frail dogs with constipation.

Vomiting is not an independent disease, it is a symptom that accompanies many diseases in dogs. Sounds and objects are retching, there are things without sound, vomiting, and there are sounds and no objects are retching, all of which are caused by the disharmony and descending of the stomach and the upward reversal of stomach qi. It is often caused by exogenous wind, cold, heat, dampness and epidemic qi invading the stomach, or overeating the essence and stopping in the stomach and not transforming, or the spleen yang is not able to warm and disperse the cold, which affects the stomach qi and lowers, causing the stomach qi to go up. to vomit.

In this case, the dog was constipated and then vomited and lethargic. Vomiting due to food injury is initially judged to be caused by insufficient gastrointestinal motility, postprandial vomiting is caused by excessive gastric acid secretion, and constipation is mainly caused by insufficient gastrointestinal motility.

Traditional Chinese herbal formulas are available: Amomum, Atractylodes, hawthorn, malt, persimmon stem, dried tangerine peel each 2g, stir-fry the coke and grind it into powder, mix thoroughly with boiled water and take it twice a day for 2 days.

In addition, when vomiting is severe and constipation occurs, the possibility of intestinal obstruction must be suspected.
