Notes for importing meat rabbits
1 , Introduced in the right season. Meat rabbits are more afraid of heat and have severe heat stress reactions. Therefore, it is generally recommended to introduce seeds in spring and autumn when the temperature is suitable. Of course, under the condition that the cold protection measures are put in place, it can also be properly introduced in winter. It is not recommended to introduce breeding in summer, especially the introduction of newly weaned young rabbits. Because young rabbits are easily stressed in the case of sudden changes in feeding and management conditions, hot environmental stimulation, etc., resulting in illness and even death.
2. Determine the number of introductions. The number of rabbits introduced should be adapted to the technical conditions. The number of first introductions should not be too large. Generally, it is advisable for ordinary farmers to introduce 10 to 20 rabbits, and then gradually expand the breeding scale after accumulating certain experience.
3. Determine the age of the breeding rabbit. Because the service life of breeding rabbits is generally only 3 to 4 years, it is necessary to focus on selecting breeding rabbits of suitable age and good production and reproductive performance when introducing breeding. Generally, it is recommended to select young rabbits of 3 to 4 months old as breeding rabbits. The economic and production value of old breeding rabbits is low; the adaptability and disease resistance of young rabbits that have not been weaned or just weaned and young rabbits are relatively poor, so attention should be paid to avoiding rabbits of these ages when introducing breeding. Therefore, it is best to introduce young rabbits of 3 to 4 months old as breeding rabbits. In addition, when introducing, it is also necessary to pay attention to the purchase of male rabbits that are 2 to 3 months older than female rabbits, that is, the introduction of female meat rabbits at the young stage and male meat rabbits at the prime stage.
4. Determine the male-female ratio. Generally, sellers or rabbit farms who sell breeding rabbits will sell them according to the ratio of male to female. The ratio of male to female rabbits is generally 1:2 or 2:3, or 1:4. However, in actual production, the ratio of male to female for natural mating of rabbits is 1:8 to 10. Therefore, when introducing breeding, attention should be paid to the ratio of male to female to avoid waste.
5. Avoid introducing seeds in the same place. If more than 400 rabbits are introduced at one time, it is recommended not to introduce so many rabbits in the same place. They can be introduced from different places or from different rabbit farms. Because too many rabbits are introduced in the same rabbit farm, it is difficult to ensure the quality, and it is difficult to ensure the quality in different rabbit farms. Breeding rabbits introduced locally can be adjusted to each other to avoid inbreeding.
6. Introduce species in regular rabbit farms. In order to better ensure the quality of breeding rabbits, it is recommended to go to a regular, reputable and scientifically managed rabbit farm for introduction. In addition, because rabbits are relatively weak, attention should be paid to shortening the transportation distance and time as much as possible.
7. Precautions for breeding rabbits at home. Breeding rabbits that have just arrived home are prone to stress reactions due to factors such as transportation and environmental changes. Therefore, after the breeding rabbits arrive home, be careful not to rush to feed them. You can first let the breeding rabbits stay quiet for 1 to 2 hours. Afterwards, add appropriate amount of wheat bran, salt and brown sugar with boiling water, let the rabbit drink it after drying, and then feed it every 1 hour or so.
