1. Stress response: Because chinchillas are relatively timid, if you just bought it and you are not familiar with the environment, or if the owner moves or the outside world Too loud and other reasons will frighten the chinchilla, resulting in a stress response, and symptoms such as hair loss and diarrhea will appear. At this time, the owner should not be in a hurry to let the chinchilla adapt to the environment at home, or just grab it and appease it. Give them some time to transition and let them adjust to the new environment on their own.
2. Parasitic infection. Under normal circumstances, because the thick hair of chinchillas does not allow parasites such as fleas and mites to contact its real skin or fur, it can be said that chinchillas are insulated from skin diseases caused by various parasites. If parasites really cause chinchillas to lose their hair, the owner should put it in a ventilated and dry place first, and then apply ectoparasite drugs once a day for 3 to 5 days, and the situation will improve.
3. Moulting period. Chinchillas usually change their hair every 3 months or so, and there is no fixed date. Moreover, it is difficult for us to find the molting period of chinchillas, because it begins to appear on the head of a dividing line between the replacement of old hair and new hair, but this line is not conspicuous, and we need to carefully observe it ourselves. And if the chinchilla is in the moulting period and the hair loss is serious, the owner does not need to worry too much, just increase the number of grooming.
4. Improper diet: As we all know, the reason why we feed chinchillas to eat melon seeds is because chinchillas are rich in linoleic acid, which is harmful to chinchillas. Hair is very beneficial. But many breeders feed the cooked melon seeds directly, but the linoleic acid in the cooked melon seeds has long been exhausted and has no effect at all. Another cooked melon seed is usually rich in edible salt and various additives, and edible salt is very easy to cause chinchillas to lose hair.
5. Trichophagia: Serious chinchilla hair loss may also be due to trichomoniasis, the sick chinchilla will eat its own hair , irritability, love to bite and other symptoms. And trichotillomania is usually incurable. It can only be fed some multivitamins to chinchillas in moderation to reduce trichomes.
