What’s wrong with parrot fish

Common causes of blanching in parrot fish

1 , The water temperature is too low: Because parrot fish are tropical fish, they usually prefer a growth environment with higher water temperature. Therefore, if the water temperature in the fish tank

where they live is too low or the owner does not pay attention to the water temperature when changing the water, resulting in a large temperature difference, the body of the parrot fish will turn white and its activity will be reduced.

2. Water quality problem: If the parrot fish hides directly in the corner even when its body is white, it may be the problem of poor water quality. For example, the high content of ammonia or chlorine in the water will cause the parrot fish to absorb oxygen poorly, and they will turn white and stop moving.

3. Sick: The whitishness of the parrot fish may also be caused by illness. The common diseases are: colds, enteritis, etc. When the parrot fish is sick, there will be symptoms such as listlessness, abnormal feces, dull body color, and white body. And if the parrot fish suffers from white spot disease, it will also make the parrot fish partially white.

What should I do if the parrot fish is whitish?

If it is caused by the water quality and water temperature, the owner can put a heating rod in the fish tank, and control the water temperature of the fish tank to keep it stably between 25-28°C. This can not only maintain the water temperature where the parrot fish lives, but also reduce the problem of too much temperature difference when changing the water. At the same time, the owner also needs to change the water in the fish tank every 3-5 days to avoid poor water quality and bacteria breeding. If the owner is afraid of forgetting to change the water, he can also install a filter in the fish tank to slow down the deterioration of the water quality.

If the body of parrot fish is white due to illness, the owner should observe their specific abnormal conditions, and then prescribe the right medicine for treatment. For example, when parrot fish have symptoms of lethargy and shortness of breath when they catch a cold, the owner can use penicillin for treatment; and if the parrot fish has abnormal stool, most of it is enteritis, and the owner can use oxytetracycline for treatment. The resistance of parrot fish will also decline when they are sick, so the owner can sprinkle some antibiotic powder in the water in an appropriate amount to enhance its resistance.
