1. The suitable breeding time for budgerigars
In general, the lifespan of budgies grown in the wild is about 7 years, while the lifespan of budgies in captivity can be as long as 12 years, and some even more than 20 years! The sexual maturity of budgerigars is relatively early. Most budgerigars are sexually mature and reach the conditions for reproduction at about 4 to 5 months of age, but it is best to wait for budgerigars to be sexually mature for a few months before letting them breed. Budgies breed too early. The peak breeding period of budgies is generally 3 to 4 years, after which the breeding rate of parrots will gradually decline! In order to maintain the overall quality of the breeding flock, the owner needs to continuously update the breeding birds.
Second, the breeding method of budgerigars
1. The mature budgerigars can breed all year round, and each litter can usually produce 4~ 10 white eggs; usually one egg is laid every day or every other day, and the nest hatching begins when the third egg is laid. Usually around 18 days. The male and female parent birds jointly raise the chicks, and the chicks have a brooding period of about 30 days. It is worth noting that female birds are very sensitive to external disturbances during the incubation period. During this period, the owner should try to keep the breeding environment as quiet as possible to prevent the mother birds from being frightened and abandoning the nest, affecting hatching and brooding.
2. In winter, if there are budgerigars breeding, try to keep the temperature of the breeding environment above 20°C, keep the relative humidity at 45%~50%, and ensure indoor air circulation.
Under normal circumstances, for budgerigars in estrus, on the premise that there is a nest box, female parrots in estrus will first frequently visit and enter and leave the nest box. After determining the breeding area, female parrots will Mating with male parrots. When the parrot breeds, the male parrot will lightly peck the female parrot’s beak; the female parrot will slightly tilt its tail, while the male parrot steps on the female parrot’s back and mates. In general, first-time breeding females spend more time exploring the nest. The females start laying eggs 7 days after the parrots mate. During the period from initial mating to laying eggs, females will continue to frequently enter and exit the nest, mate with males after exiting the nest, and then sleep outside the nest box at night. The female usually lays an egg every day or every other day, and after the third egg is photographed, the chicks hatch the eggs one after another.
