Why and how to deal with shivering parrots

What are the reasons for the parrot trembling

1. Trembling because of the cold

If the parrot is found to be trembling, the owner can pay attention to recall whether the temperature has dropped or the ambient temperature has been too low recently. If so, the trembling of the parrot is probably caused by a cold. In this regard, the owner needs to keep warm measures for the parrot in time to prevent the parrot from catching a cold. The specific response methods are as follows:

First of all, the owner can measure the temperature in the bird cage and aviary. Most parrots like to live in a temperature environment of more than ten degrees Celsius. Above 5°C, in order to ensure that the parrot will not be seriously affected by the cold air, the resistance will decline, and it will catch a cold.

Secondly, the owner should be careful not to let the parrot go back and forth in an environment with a large temperature difference between indoor and outdoor, try to keep the temperature in the breeding environment stable, and avoid the parrot from catching a cold and shivering due to the failure of body temperature adjustment.

Finally, the owner can properly add some nutrients to the parrot to enhance the parrot’s resistance, such as giving it cooked eggs or electrolytes to supplement nutrition.

2. Trembling when frightened

Parrots also tremble when frightened. Most parrots are very timid. When there is a sudden change in the environment or when there is a loud noise around, the parrot tends to have a stress response due to severe fright, resulting in involuntary shaking of the body.

Generally, if the parrot is not particularly frightened, after a few hours of adjustment, the parrot will slowly recover, and the tremor symptoms will also be reduced. However, if the parrot’s trembling and stress are very serious, accompanied by symptoms such as not eating, being lethargic, having watery stools, and looking sluggish, it is likely to endanger its life. For this reason, owners must pay attention to keeping their breeding environment quiet in the process of raising parrots to prevent parrots from being frightened.

3. Trembling due to parasite infection

The parrot will cause severe itching when infected with parasites, which makes the parrot very uncomfortable, but because it cannot peck the affected area by itself , unable to stop the itching, so it often shakes its own hair, which is what we see as trembling. Of course, the physical discomfort of parrots due to other diseases can also cause them to feel uncomfortable and shiver. If the owner cannot determine the specific cause, it is best to seek the help of a veterinarian.
