After the tortoise dies, it will no longer react to external stimuli. Their limbs and heads are exposed, they don’t move when touched, and they don’t retract forcefully when pulled gently, just as they are pulled.
If the turtle is just hibernating, pulling its limbs should respond. Some turtles will move, and some will quickly retract their limbs. Similarly, lightly stab the turtle’s head with a sharper object, and the living turtle will have a retraction response, and the unresponsive turtle will die.
Pick up the turtle and gently shake its body from side to side. If the turtle’s head moves with your movements, as if the neck is broken, and the whole body feels soft, it means that it has already died.
Observe the tortoise’s excretory opening. If the excretion orifice is enlarged, it can basically be judged that the tortoise is dead. In addition, when the turtle is placed in a warmer environment, the dead turtle will remain motionless all the time.
